MIAMI, March 25, 2025 –  IGEL, the global leader in secure endpoint OS solutions for now and next, has introduced the new IGEL Managed Hypervisor—a powerful extension of its Preventative Security Model™. This new offering empowers organizations to extend the life of critical legacy applications while modernizing IT and OT infrastructure. Designed to run legacy operating systems securely on today’s high-performance hardware, IGEL Managed Hypervisor enables seamless digital transformation while reserving operational continuity.

The IGEL Managed Hypervisor enables seamless integration with converged IT and OT networks, supporting network segmentation and zero trust architectures to reduce attack surfaces and enforce strict access controls. With IGEL Ready partner integration, remote troubleshooting, and security updates, it ensures high availability and operational continuity for critical environments — including those that could otherwise be trending toward obsolescence or in need of a costly hardware and software overhaul.

“The launch of IGEL Managed Hypervisor is a defining moment for enterprise computing,” said Klaus Oestermann, CEO of IGEL. “As organizations work to converge IT and OT infrastructure while maintaining access to critical legacy applications, IGEL is delivering a breakthrough solution. With IGEL Managed Hypervisor, enterprises can extend the life of their software and hardware investments, enhance endpoint security, and modernize at their own pace — without disruption.”

IGEL has successfully tested the new hypervisor with devices from IGEL’s three top platform partners, HP, Lenovo, and LG. The IGEL Managed Hypervisor marks a breakthrough in enterprise computing, giving organizations the flexibility to run legacy apps and operating systems securely on the latest hardware. This not only extends the lifespan of critical OT environments but also fortifies endpoint security—allowing enterprises to modernize on their own terms. We are proud to collaborate with our partners to deliver practical next-generation solutions that enable secure, future-ready computing.

Built on IGEL’s secure endpoint operating system and the Preventative Security Model™, the IGEL Managed Hypervisor allows organizations to break the dependency between aging operating systems and outdated hardware. It enables legacy Windows environments—common in operational technology (OT) use cases like manufacturing, energy, and industrial sectors—to run securely on modern devices, helping reduce vulnerabilities and improve manageability.

The hypervisor supports remote management, centralized policy enforcement, and integration with IGEL Ready ecosystem partners, giving IT teams more control and flexibility across hybrid infrastructures. With the ability to securely isolate legacy workloads, it becomes a key enabler for zero trust strategies while preserving mission-critical business operations.

Unlocking the Future of Secure, Flexible Computing

The IGEL Managed Hypervisor addresses a critical industry need by providing organizations with:

  • Extended Software Investment Value – Extend the life of legacy operating systems and apps securely on modern endpoint devices.
  • Seamless Digital Transformation – Modernize IT infrastructure at the pace of business without disrupting critical business operations.
  • Enhanced Security and Compliance – Fortify endpoint security while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Optimized Hardware and Software Utilization – Maximize the lifespan of enterprise hardware and past software investments.

Availability & Next Steps

The IGEL Managed Hypervisor is now available for enterprises looking to enhance security, extend software lifecycles, and flexibly modernize IT infrastructure without disruption.

SAN FRANCISCO – July 11, 2024IGEL, provider of the secure endpoint OS for now and next, announced that it has deepened its collaboration with Microsoft, naming new integrations and enhancements that support Windows-driven enterprise customers. As a result of ongoing development and innovation, IGEL is now releasing IGEL OS support for Windows 365 Frontline edition, new features available for Microsoft Intune and native support for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI.

IGEL and Microsoft are releasing the following new developments to enhance support for the Windows-powered enterprise:

  • Windows 365 Frontline Support. IGEL OS has added new multi-user support for Windows 365 Cloud PCs. Now task workers such as healthcare workers, shift workers and other frontline staff, can connect their Cloud PCs directly from IGEL OS to Windows 365 Frontline. This simplifies the adoption of Windows 365 Frontline to give shift and part-time workers the flexibility to work productively from anywhere without the constraints of shared physical devices.
  • Enhanced Intune Support. Now, using a new Intune app for IGEL OS, IT administrators can see and manage IGEL-powered devices from within Intune. Using support for Microsoft Entra ID Conditional Access, enterprises using IGEL OS on endpoints managed by Intune can achieve greater policy control and security for a more compliant endpoint estate.
  • Azure Virtual Desktop for Azure Stack HCI Support. IGEL OS’s clients work directly with Azure Virtual Desktop for Azure Stack HCI. IGEL can deliver cost effective VDI access for customers that want the benefits of Azure Virtual Desktop running on-premises using hyper converged infrastructure hardware.

“IGEL is continuing its ongoing, strategic Microsoft relationship by prioritizing the collaborative innovations our joint customers need to accelerate end user productivity while enhancing enterprise security and efficiency,” said Klaus Oestermann, CEO, IGEL. “By deepening our support across the Microsoft portfolio, we are underscoring the value of IGEL in the Windows-driven enterprise and accentuating the value of our combined solution for the future of end user computing.”

“IGEL and Microsoft are mutually committed to delivering a seamless and secure user experience for today’s hybrid digital workforce,” said Scott Manchester, Vice President of Product, Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365, Microsoft. “IGEL’s support for Windows 365 Frontline, Azure Virtual Desktop for Azure Stack HCI and Microsoft Intune will help us deliver additional value to a broad range of customers in a wide variety of industries.”

These new developments and enhanced Microsoft technology support will be featured during IGEL DISRUPT 24, the industry’s largest EUC event which will take place September 16 and 17 in Munich, Germany.  During the event, Microsoft will deliver a half-day technical bootcamp, offering hands-on training, real-world simulations, and in-depth discussions to help attendees explore key concepts around Azure Virtual Desktop, the key differentiators of Windows 365 and the optimization of application delivery and security best practices within the Microsoft ecosystem.

Offering a modular architecture, granular endpoint control and end-user freedom, COSMOS is designed to enable organizations to garner the full power of current-day and future clouds with extensive control, while powering great user experiences for today’s hybrid work.

The most significant new advancement with IGEL COSMOS is that, for the first time, IGEL is completely separating the base IGEL OS from its validated and integrated applications and interfaces, while adding an additional separate component in the form of value-added cloud services. Together, these three vital components comprise IGEL COSMOS. This modular architecture of “separate but equal” elements of endpoint operating system, management and control, and cloud services enables maximum IT flexibility in introducing or enhancing apps, desktops, services, and any other form of cloud-delivered digital workspaces as the cloud continues to evolve.

Featuring extensive management and control powered by the new IGEL UMS 12, the next generation of the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS), COSMOS enables the parallel use, management and control of endpoints running both IGEL OS 11 and the new IGEL OS 12 operating system.

New cloud services, which are de-coupled from the OS, include the IGEL App Portal for use-case specific software applications offered from IGEL software partners and available for seamless download and implementation. Additional cloud services include the IGEL Onboarding Service, IGEL Insight Service, and other services and portals all designed to enhance effectiveness and user experiences for both IT professionals and end users.

“Today’s workspaces are hybrid. Hybrid work, hybrid clouds and hybrid applications. While VDI and DaaS continue to provide organizations the safest way to deliver secure access to windows client server applications, a transition to SaaS and web-based applications has already started.  IT organizations need to make sure they can evolve at their optimal pace and at the same time, enable employees seamless, yet secure access to their cloud workspaces,” said Matthias Haas, Chief Technology Officer, IGEL. “The COSMOS platform has been designed for this new era of hybrid work. With a new modularized version of IGEL OS, a new version of our UMS management platform coupled with new cloud services that extend capabilities and enhance user experiences, COSMOS enables unmatched speed and flexibility to our customers across traditional and modern application delivery models, while still retaining security, management, and control across the entire endpoint estate.”

“In today’s hybrid work world, end users want equal access to their apps and data regardless of their location or device, while IT needs lighter, more secure and manageable solutions to deliver workspaces,” said Shannon Kalvar, Research Director, of Virtual Client Computing, IDC. “This is particularly important as we continue to see the skills gap increase in all sectors and industries, the issue is not exclusive to IT.  Meeting this challenge will require us to re-think how we access, deliver, manage, and sustain our digital workspaces.”

“Having deployed IGEL OS to our remote workforce, we have been excited to pilot the latest innovation from IGEL including UMS 12 and IGEL OS 12,” said Simon Barlow, Group Chief Technology Officer, Operations, AXA UK & Ireland. “Our remote workforce, the agile application landscape and more frequent update cycles of unified comms require us to onboard, manage and update our endpoints faster and more efficiently than ever before. Based on our initial testing of OS 12, we are already confident that we can remotely configure, update, and patch our remote machines faster and more efficiently. With small updates and the ability to only update the Azure Virtual Desktop client, IGEL COSMOS allows us to be more agile without compromising security or change control. We are excited about the new cloud services which complement IGEL OS and UMS 12 and are proud to be included in the COSMOS platform launch.”

“Having utilized the secure IGEL OS for our VMware VDI environment, we were excited to work with IGEL on the IGEL OS 12 pilot,” said Billy Cruz, Technology Services Manager, Desktop Engineering, COCC. “The ability to update the VMware Horizon client independently from IGEL OS in the new offering allows us to deploy the latest innovation from VMware faster and more efficiently than before. The additional ability to now also update the Zoom and Webex offloading clients, independently from the VMware Horizon app, also provides additional flexibility and reduces the amount of time needed to perform management updates to increase employee experience. With a smaller attack surface and faster updates, we are excited about rolling out IGEL OS 12 in the future.”

The Powerful, Unified Components of COSMOS

At the core of the IGEL COSMOS platform is the new IGEL UMS 12, which offers a unified view across a heterogeneous mix of endpoints running either IGEL OS 11 or the new IGEL OS 12. This powerful, yet simple-to-use, management and control console enables environments already benefitting from IGEL OS to easily migrate and leverage the immediate value of COSMOS without requiring an OS upgrade on all their existing devices.

Released with COSMOS is the new IGEL OS 12 which is more lightweight and adaptable than ever. Offering increased flexibility, speed, and agile integrations, IGEL OS 12 has been architected to support any form of cloud-delivered digital experience. It also supports a faster, more efficient delivery of features and applications tuned to specific use cases via the IGEL App Portal.  Other key services tuned to IGEL OS 12 include fast user onboarding and deep insights into endpoint usage, security, status, and compliance of IGEL UMS-managed endpoints.

One of the most significant new cloud services adding additional value to COSMOS is the IGEL App Portal. The App Portal delivers a full range of validated applications from IGEL’s vast IGEL Ready technology partner community designed for use on IGEL OS-powered devices. Since the App Portal operates separately and independently from the IGEL OS endpoint operating system, it sharply streamlines the process of application integration, introduction, and qualification for IT teams since there is no longer any dependence on the classic, highly integrated software release process. Available for download at no extra cost, these apps can be rapidly qualified and delivered as a feature-rich experience for users, while reducing the app qualification, implementation and update processes for IT. Applications include the Microsoft Azure Virtual Desktop client, VMware Horizon client, Citrix Workspace app, Chromium Browser, Zoom Media Plugins for VDI and many more. IGEL also offers an IGEL OS API (application programming interface) for software providers that want to validate their solution for availability using COSMOS and the IGEL App Portal.

Availability

COSMOS, IGEL UMS 12, and IGEL OS 12 will be available April 18. Existing users of IGEL OS 11 will be able to engage IGEL UMS 12 via an easy migration to access COSMOS advancements for existing and new devices running IGEL OS 12 in the future. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 9, 2022 – IGEL, provider of the managed endpoint operating system for secure access to any digital workspace, today announced the introduction of the IGEL Disaster Recovery Program. Through this new program, organizations can quickly regain control of malware affected devices to mitigate the impact of an attack, including ransomware, and quickly restore end-user productivity.

“The global acceleration of hybrid work has created a perfect storm for opportunistic cybercriminals, and earlier this year the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency reported that it was aware of ransomware incidents against 14 of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors which include healthcare, financial services and government agencies,” said Matthias Haas, Chief Technology Officer, IGEL. “Given the reality of the current situation, it is imperative that organizations be prepared for not if, but when a cyberattack will occur. The IGEL Disaster Recovery Program provides a simple, effective, and secure way to restore end-user productivity in the shortest amount of time possible, following a ransomware or other cybersecurity incident. This is just one example of how IGEL is transforming the way the world works by creating better outcomes for people, organizations, and our planet.”

A secure and rapid response to ransomware

Through the IGEL Disaster Recovery Program, IT organizations can provide their end-users with secure and managed access to business-critical applications, data, and desktops from any device, anywhere. This includes endpoints that may be directly impacted by a cyberattack, within minutes of the attack. Since IGEL OS is read-only and tamper-proof, modular to minimize its attack surface, and includes the “chain of trust” to ensure endpoint system integrity, it serves as the ideal endpoint OS for protecting end-user devices from malware. The UD Pocket with IGEL OS enables that same level of endpoint security to run on an infected endpoint since it boots independently from USB to ensure business continuity during/after a security breach.

Through this program, an IT Administrator can also deploy and control the IGEL OS-powered devices from a single console with the IGEL Universal Management Suite (UMS). The IGEL Cloud Gateway (ICG) feature, available with IGEL OS and the IGEL UD Pocket, extends the management console reach by creating a secure, encrypted connection to each remote user device, without VPNs.

Expert resources help to accelerate deployment

Along with the IGEL UD Pocket to boot IGEL OS and remote management, the IGEL Disaster Recovery Program offers access to expert resources to help speed deployment. These include:

  • A Premier Technical Relationship Manager who understands the business and proactively helps the organization leverage the IGEL UD Pocket, UMS, and ICG in their environment to rapidly regain control of endpoint devices.
  • IGEL Academy offers focused, self-paced eLearning programs to equip IT admins with the know-how to leverage the full capabilities of IGEL OS and the UMS management console.
